Hurricane Shirley?
Basically I’m a California girl. I grew up in L.A. and spent most of my adult years in the San Francisco Bay Area. I moved back to L.A. in March of 2005; back to San Francisco in July 2006. In November of 2007 I moved to Las Vegas with my significant other to take care of his mother, who is in poor health. Hurricane Shirley is my nickname in the blogosphere.

I am thrice divorced (go ahead, laugh, everyone does.) In the 1980s and 90s, I was a songwriter and singer, held down a variety of low-paying day jobs, and raised two kids.
In February 2005 I began work on The Charlotte Stories, a series of short fiction pieces workshopped in the CraigsList Literary and Writing Forum. Under the handle BowlOfCherries, I was involved there through 2007 as contributor, copy editor, and co-editor of several fiction anthologies spawned from that forum.
I spend my time digesting my experiences, only sometimes worrying about where my next hug will come from, learning to write stories instead of songs, and trying to get my ass out of debt.

Time has flown since last I stopped by for a chat. I’ve enjoyed your work.
Did you know that IT Conversations is being re-started and they are looking for people with your kind of talent. I’m using A.J.’s computer at the moment, so I don’t have the URL handy, but you can google it.
Best of the best to you,
Ron

I really enjoyed your tale of reunion with your family. Families matter and we’re happier when we can forgive if not forget.
Some of the stuff I’ve published on Okie websites has brought cousins outa the woodwork, and they’ve added to my meager stock of tales some whoppers. I’m slowly getting them in shape for my web site. But damned slowly.

Yeah, forgive and then forget sometimes works better than ignore, ignore, ignore.
I’m going to start a family history website next year, Mack. I expect the same woodwork action you experienced.

About IT Conversations, I looked at their site and don’t think it’s a fit, but thanks for the mention!

Thanksgiving Sunday for us.
Christine and I are heading for St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church in South St. Pete this morning. We’re taking pumpking and apple pies and a couple tubs of whipped cream to slather on the pies. We’re not sure there will be turkey for lunch, or Kielbasa and cabbage (I personally prefer the latter), but we know we’ll have our favorite pie for dessert.
If you haven’t checked out lit/fo lately, you missed my brief tale about Marysville, CA.
You’ll know who was on my mind while writing this one.
Happy Turkey Day,
Ron

Dear Hurricane Shirley,
How rude I’ve been! I failed to thank you for the link to my other website: Old Mack’s Tales.
I have to quit ranting about old crooks, politicians and such; I’ve been neglecting my calling. Maybe I should try writing rap song lyrics instead of prose diatribes which few people read.
Hurricane Laura is building up a head of steam in the Atlantic; forecasters tell us not to worry about her. September has always been the part of our storm season which kept me on my toes, taking down awnings, closing storm shutters and laying in a case or two of bottled water. But this year, I’m not going to button up the house until a storm called Hurricane Shirley looms on the radar.
Best of luck to you and yours.

Hi, Ron. The Lucerne Valley piece was a nice read, thanks for sharing.
I guess hurricanes are something you just live with in Florida. Here in Las Vegas, what can I say, it’s a desert. Flooding, bizarre allergies, and water shortages have caught my attention already (we’ve lived here less than a year).
I had a dream about a green scorpion a few weeks ago that I can’t shake. I haven’t done any research yet but I’m going to have to. Do green scorpions exist?
October 28, 2008 at 3:29 pm
The only “lethal” scorpion–I’ve been told–is the Durango. It is small, amber colored and translucent. The Grand Canyon South Rim is the only place I’ve seen them. The Scorpion is prominent in astrology. If your birthday is in November, you may want to check your Scorpio Sun Sign (Linda Goodman’s Sun Signs is a good source.
I don’t know if green scorpions exist, but suspect they do.
