Glendale Rocks! Rock On, Glendale!!

Report in the Glendale News-Press on a filming event in Glendale yesterday. See, I told you Glendale was a happenin' spot. Some excerpts concerning the excitement:

booneaprilDOWNTOWN — Ken Lecheminant remembers the opening day of singer Pat Boone's 1957 movie, "April Love." Lecheminant was 16, and he watched the movie at Glendale's Alex Theatre with his girlfriend.

"It was good," he said. "[Boone] was a big star back then."

Nearly 50 years later, Lecheminant — general manager of the Glendale Star Chrysler/Jeep dealership — got another chance to see Boone. But this time, it was in person.

shanana Boone joined members of the musical group Sha na na at the dealership Wednesday afternoon to shoot a music video for the band's newest song, "The Cat in the PT Cruiser."

Sha na na had its own syndicated television show in the '70s that featured guests like The Ramones and James Brown.

And they played Johnny Casino and the Gamblers in the 1978 movie, "Grease."

The band is releasing its second CD under Boone's label, Pat Boone's Gold Label, in June. The record features all new music rather than cover songs, Simon said.

"It's like the PT Cruiser, it's a new thing, but with a throwback feel," he said. "Our group's message has always been the same: Rock and roll is here to stay. It's a timeless thing."ptcruiser

At Wednesday's shoot, Boone played a car salesman who, along with his customer, was surprised to see the members of Sha na na pop up inside a red PT Cruiser he was trying to sell.

The footage will also be used in a commercial for Glendale Star Chrysler/Jeep, Lecheminant said.
